My blog

February 11, 2010

Well, I started this blog because of a class I am currently taking (communication 10). Unfortunately, today, my class will come to an end. This blog was an exercise in which we had to post about anything we saw that we found interesting enough to talk about or just say something about something.

I like expressing my opinion as much as the next person. I really do not like to argue with others about things that can be viewed from many different perspectives – like politics. That is the main reason why I have always and always will stay away from anything that deals with politics.

In my class (communications 10) I have learned many things. One of the most important things I believe I have learned is how to analyze the message that is being sent when I watch the news, watch a commercial, read an ad or a news paper article. I have  learned to look beyond  the printed word and not believe everything I read just because it’s in print. I have learned to analyze things with more scrutiny and not believe everything I see or hear.

I really really enjoyed this class. I think it’s one of the most,  if not the most interesting class I have taken because it is definitely a skill i’ll apply in my everyday life. To me, it’s one of those things that you never forget  because it becomes part of  you once the skill is taught and you constantly use it. I think this class should be a college requirement for everyone.

I am not sure if I will continue to post blogs but if I find myself having to express my anger (lol), comment on something interesting or just say what’s on my mind, I’ll post it here. Perhaps, one of these days, I will have people who read this and share my views and beliefs or like to read my blog just because.

No We Don’t

February 11, 2010

Couple of days ago, I saw a news segment where they reported about how someone or some group in Wyoming, Minn put up a billboard with the words ” Miss me yet? ” and next to a picture of former president George W. Bush Jr waving with his usual stupid dumb founded look on his face – that never seems to disappear because I am 100% positive he realizes how bad he messed things up and is aware of being the top dog for worst American presidents ever.

http://popwatch.ew.com/2010/02/09/miss-me-yet-billboard/

My answer to that particular stupid person or group that put up that

My question to those who put this billboard up is

  1. Are you serious?
  2. Where have you been the past 9 years?

billboard who is coward enough to not even release their identity is: no we do not miss him at all. We will ( and I am sure about this) remember him for a very very long time because we still (and perhaps will not in the next 2 years) have not come out of the great recession he drove America and the rest of the world into.

This man and his clones:

  •  Got this country into 2 wars that will NEVER be won
  • Put America inthe biggest deficit ever
  • Became president although he lost the election (can anyone explain this one to me and please tell me something I don’t already know)
  • Sat on a chair and read a 1st grade book while the Twin Towers were being destroyed then lied about “seeing the whole thing through the window and thinking oh my god” (please notice my quotes)
  • Raised taxes on the poor while giving tax cuts to the wealthy
  • DEVASTED AMERICA FOR MANY YEARS TO COME
  • And much more that will take an eternity to list on here

So, you people that put up that billboard I am sure you guys were those who got  tax cuts or there were things that you use to get away with that you can’t anymore under our current president’s watch. That billboard should be taken down and burn.

and for those of you who might be wondering NO I am not a republican or a democrat or a liberal. I just have my own beliefs and a set of very high moral standards.

Quisqeya My Beautiful Island

February 5, 2010

February is a month when in America we celebrate the history of African Americans and we reflect of the many years of struggle and the many battles that were fought in order to end the ongoing oppression.

But in February, many miles across the sea, there is a beautiful tropical island with a rich culture that proudly celebrates there independence, an island with good and humble people, an island where millions of tourists visit each year and are enchanted by their wonderful stay in what many consider one of the most beautiful places in the world, this island is my island Quisqeya best known as Dominican Republic.

The Dominican Republic is located in the Caribbean approximately 49,000 miles from Cuba.  Although the island is shared with Haiti, the Dominican Republic is completely independent with its own government, is own money and its own military.  The Dominican Republic has a population of about 10 million people. The population across the Island is 73% multiracial, 16% white and 11% black.

The Dominican Republic was discovered by Italian Navigator Christopher Columbus in 1492 while exploring the western hemisphere in the very famous ships La Pinta, La Nina and the Santa Maria. After being occupied by the Spanish,  many diseases where spread throughout the Island killing off most of the natives who were called Tainos which had little to no immunity to their infectious diseases. Those who didn’t die, were broken up from their family and enslaved. After conquering the Aztecs and Incas in Mexico, Spain no longer had interest in the island of Espanola and therefore ceded the island to France.

In 1795, the Island was French ruled and about 90% of the population had been enslaved.  French Revolutionary wars as well as slaves who revolted against France weakened France’s stronghold in the Dominican Republic returning the Island back to Spanish control by 1808.

After 13 years of discontent and struggle, in 1821, the Dominican Republic declared itself independent. 2 Months later, the Dominican Republic was invaded by Haiti. Many Dominicans were drafted in the Haitian Army in order to once and for all do away with slavery as well as the remaining Spanish rulers. By 1838, the Fathers of liberty Juan Pablo Duarte, Ramon Matias Mella and Francisco del Rosario Sanchez created a secret society called La Trinitaria which sought the complete independence of Dominican Republic from Haitians.

On February 27, 1844, the Dominican Republic became an independent Country freeing itself from Haiti and all foreign enemies.  The Dominican Republic’s constitution was adopted in the model of the constitution of the United States.

Today, the Dominican Republic is one of the most visited places in the world attracting million of people from all over the world.

Welcome to Hollywood

February 5, 2010

As Peter Griffin from the Family Guy said “you know what really grinds my gear” the law inequality that exists today between “celebrities” and normal everyday people.

As everyone knows due to the enormous attention it has captivated by all different media sources and the infamous historical  event that will forever be remembered as one of the most tragic moments of our history; Dr. Murray is to appear in court to face charges for the death of the king of pop Michael Jackson.

There is an ongoing dispute by the LAPD and the DA’s office about how Dr. Murray is to be brought in to face the charges that has not even been properly filed against him yet. The dispute consists of whether he is arrested and brought in handcuffs or if he is to be left alone to appear in court on his own accord to face the charges that will be file against him sometime in the future. According to the news, Dr. Murray is to face involuntary manslaughter which involves a penalty of up to 4 years in prison.

I am not suggesting  that Dr. Murray is a criminal nor is guilty of  anything until it is proven beyond reasonable doubt by a jury. The point I am trying to make here is that if an everyday person was to face charges of involuntary manslaughter which is a felony,  he/she will not have the choice of showing up to court when they see fit. One smart move by Dr. Murray and his legal team of advisors is that they have collectively decided that he will show up in court today by 1:30 PM to face a judge although as I mentioned no charges have been filed therefore, he is not being accused of anything yet.

The law is there to be implemented without any concern of status, religion or race. The law is there to protect and to serve everyone residing  in the United States of America equally. It grinds my gear when celebrities get special treatment just because of who they are. It seems as if  there is  subcategory of the law that is  used in special occasions for those with power and status. This is not the first time I hear about law enforcement giving special treatment to individuals like Dr. Murray.

This world belongs to the rich and powerful and to those with a famous face.  Everyone else below that are just temporarily living in it.

American Idol

January 29, 2010

The other day I watched American Idol for the first time in my life. Of course I knew about the show ever since it first aired on national television. I have seen clips of some of the weird things people do on this show but I never had any interest in spending an hour watching people trying to audition for a chance to go to hollywood and become rich and famous if they make it far enough.

So…The show came on and I was bored therefore, I decided to leave it on that channel and see what really American Idol was all about. I think this show is ridiculous. American Idol shows a bunch of untalented people that can’t sing and do anything in order to be on national television. I  know perhaps that is what makes people watch this show- The fact that stupid people do stupid things- but I just think it is stupid to have these people with no talent what-so-ever  audition for it.

I was wondering if they pay these people to come on the show and act stupid just for the sake of making it interesting and somewhat funny. I thought it would be better to have them audition before going on TV and perhaps have an array of talented people compete for a chance to become celebrity. I thought the competition would be more interesting and more competitive.

Ipod + steriods = Ipad

January 29, 2010

The new Ipad is the talk of the town. The gadget that people have been talking about for so long finally hit the market this past Wednesday. is this new toy everything we all expected it to be? perhaps not.

My first thought when I learned about the Ipad. I thought it was going to be a gadget that was going to make laptop computers obsolete. I thought that many PC users where going to get rid of their current laptops and run to the Apple store to get their very own Ipad.

Having seen the Ipad and learning about its features I am yet to be impressed by it. From the presentation by Mr. Jobs I absorbed that this was another Ipod dipped in a barrel of steroids (slighty Enhancing its graphics). The Ipad does exactly  everything the Ipod does nothing less nothing more.

For those of you out there debating whether or not to buy this new gadget. Save your money this Item does not outperform traditional laptops in any way shape or form.

Economic flashback..

January 22, 2010

A few weeks ago I thought the economy was back on track. It has been well over a year since the economy took a major devastating blow on many hard working Americans. I was very happy to see that the number of people applying for unemployment had dropped, not much but enough to say that we were in a better situation than last year. In addition, is a fact that the last thing that recovers after an economic downturn is unemployment.

This week the stock market has been down over 400 points. That is a lot. It makes it seem as if we are right back where we started a year and a half ago. As a young investor I should not be too worried because history has it that the stock market always rebounds. But I am. I am very sympathetic of the many hard working Americans that lost their Jobs during this recession. Furthermore, I am even more compassionate of those who not only lost their jobs but their home and their life savings. Not to mention that many of those people devastated by it were middle age to the elderly. People that have been building their savings throughout the course of many years in order to someday retire.

I hope that everyone who lost their savings, home, job, etc soon see some light at the end of the tunnel.

Earth 2100..Watch it.

January 22, 2010

I recently saw a film (Earth 2100) that I thought to be very interesting. This film examined the climate change that is occurring today and the effects it will have by the year 2100. With the help of various scientists, they were able to look into the future and play out what will be the effects of the climate change occurring today.

They were constructing the steps that were going to have to be taken in order to contain the outcomes of global warming as well as what are some good things that we could do in order to ameliorate our future. For example, in New York City they said that it would make a big difference if we installed windmills on top of the buildings for the generating of power. Also, in this films they had that many buildings had gone green and people were able to grow their own crops for food.

There were many conflicts presented on this films as well as possible solutions that we could slowly take to better our situation here on earth. I just thought it was a very interesting film because I had never seen anything quite like it.

Please help Haiti..donate.

January 15, 2010

Please. Please help Haiti. There are many poor countries around the world but Haiti is the poorest of the poor. Today, Haiti needs our help more than ever. There are million of Haitians that are homeless, broke and jobless. Most kids lost their parents in the earthquake and most adults lost their children, husbands and wives. There are many people who are trapped in rubble and with probably little chance of being saved.

Please. Please. donate. any small amount you donate will help Haitians. There is no little food and most Haitians do not have sanitary water. The infrastructure of Haiti for the most part has been completely destroyed. I urge you to please donate as much as you can. Our brothers and sisters need our help today more than ever.

Below is a list of charities you can donate to..Please donate every little bit helps.

What is your new year’s resolution?

January 15, 2010

Well, here we are 2010. Not knowing what my new year’s resolution was, I began asking family and friends about their positive course of action for the new year. To my surprise, most people I asked did not have a new year’s resolution either. Some tried to make one up while others were not very concrete with their answers.

I would like to know what was your new year’s resolution. what are positive things you think are important in your life and are worth making a change for. How does these changes impact your life as well as the life of others. Do you think these changes should be taken up by others and why.
